Am I the only one who thought that Got7 was going to turn into another "Miss A situation" (at least in the west and Greater China)?

  • For those who don't know a 'Miss A situation' is when one member is significantly more popular than the rest. This is named after them because Suzy overshadowed the rest of Miss A. And this takes me to Got7, where I thought that Jackson would overshadow the rest of the Got7, at least in the western markets. Starting in the late 2010's, I was seeing that Jackson was going to various Western shows and YT channels by himself and I was hear some buzz around him on Twitter while not hearing as much buzz on the others. Additionally, I heard a few of his solo songs on my local hit radio station but have yet to hear a Got7 song on the same stations.

But today, while Jackson is the most followed Got7 member on Instagram (and most followed male idol not in BTS by extension), I don't see a huge gap between Jackson and the others. He doesn't even have the most Twitter followers among Got7 members (Bambam and Mark both have more). To be fair though, I am horrible at perceiving popularity of groups and individual idols relative to others and all what I based my predictions then were based entirely from experience.

This leads me to ask, did anyone else think that Jackson was going to overshadow Got7 (at least in the west and Greater China)?

  • NOPE. The difference with the Miss A situation was that Suzy was very loved by the Korean public. I guess Jackson Is loved too but mostly with western audiences. Plus Got7 was always super balanced as a group, maybe except for youngjae. Poor youngjae.

  • No, I never thought anything like that.
