Few i-fans pay attention to Miss Trot 2, but since the names of the finalists will grace many spots, it is time for whyknock to give the ifans some introduction.
Long story short, the following people made it to the finals. (The birth years are what they claim; whyknock is not responsible for any errors and omissions.)
Kim Taeyeon 2012 - 9 years old (all ages western reckoning ; birthdays irrelevant)
Kim Dahyun 2009 - 12 years old
Kim Euiyoung 1993 - 28 yrs old
Byulsarang (which means either "star love" or "lovely star" - real name Yoon Jungin) 1992 - 29 yrs old
Yang Jieun 1990 - 31 yrs old. The only married person in the list ( 2 children)
Eun Gaeun (real name Kim Jieun) 1987 - 34 yrs old.
There are one (actually two) Jieuns and one Jiyoon (as in Park Jiyoon or 4minute member Jeon Jiyoon) but at least they use different surnames.
However, the name of the two youngsters, Kim Taeyeon and Kim Dahyun, are alarming and will be confusing to ifans.
Kim Dahyun is a daughter of Kim Bonggon, who is somewhat famous as a guy who still wears traditional Korean garb and teaches ancient Confucian stuff to the youngsters. Bonggon and his entire family have been exposed to the TV quite a lot of times, and her second sister Kim Dohyun had appeared in Mnet's Cap-Teen audition, so the entire family has showbiz ambitions.
Kim Taeyeon was born in 2012. She was born in Bu'an, a place not far away from Jeonju, the birthplace of the SNSD leader, so it is quite probable that this Taeyeon was named after the SNSD leader. (SNSD had debuted on 2007.)
The big three contenders are now Hong Jiyoon , a favorite by the station ; Yang Jieun, who was put in after another contest's school violence history was revealed; and , surprisingly, the 9 years old Kim Taeyeon, who had studied traditional Korean chants from a master who is now dying of cancer. All three have backgrounds with traditional Korean chants. While Hong is the favorite it is very probable that this Kim Taeyeon might take #1 because her skill is quite good.
If this Kim Taeyeon takes #1 in the Miss Trot 2 competition we might see a scene that the SNSD leader is going to lose her position to someone named after herself.
