Who would win: Spiderman vs Nightcrawler?

  • Putting this in anon so people who don't know the characters as well feel more comfortable answering. Recently started getting into X-Men and found I really like Nightcrawler. Some characteristics of his remind me of Spiderman who is one of my top marvel characters of all time so it got me thinking about them fighting.

Threads I found on their abilities/how powerful they are/etc. if anyone wants to read up:

My take is morals on: Spiderman wins. Morals off: Nightcrawler wins. According to what I read, he doesn't use brutal tactics such teleporting heads/limbs off, or even generally kills, outside of alternate universe versions so in a morals on fight he would definitely lose, mainly due to being a lot weaker. Morals off: seems like he could just do a little bit of head teleporting and have it done in seconds...

Also pretty cool thing I found while looking around is that they seem to crossover a lot (with Deadpool too!) so now I need to find all those comics lmao

Now I must read this.... back on topic though. Who would win? First round: morals on (Earth-616), second: morals off (weird question for a kpop forum but I don't use any other forums so whatever, I'll ask here)

  • I think it all depending on circumstances, experiences, how old they are and what version are we using. Example would be Parker in Civil War. Cap was able to ground him, Spiderman is much stronger than Cap, but at the time he was too inexperienced. We also see that during Homecoming, Stark said that if Cap wanted to hurt him (Parker), he would stand no chance.

As for Nightcrawler, of all the Xmen I have seen, he seems really shy and timid and acted like The Flash in Justice League Film. He really doesn't fight but rather push people away or just runs out. Nightcrawler from those Xmen films were of similar act. So if you put Parker and Nightcrawler together, they'll probably avoid fighting lol.

If they are both grown and experienced, Nightcrawler seems to be extremely strong. Spidy has 6th sense but I don't know if he can spot teleportation as quickly. Both are mutated with special powers, but Nightcrawler would kills. It's hard to gauge who's stronger other than letting the artist decides for you, which IMO is only to reinforce the selling point of the character so and so. The Punisher is pretty badass but even he has a comic about killing the Marvel universe, lol. Doesn't make sense other than the artist selling point.

  • Spiderman easily. He outclasses night crawler in almost every physical aspect like strength, speed, agility etc and is by far much smarter.

Night crawler main trick is teleporting but if spiderman feels he is in danger/not friendly fight then he can use his spider sense to detect where night crawler can teleport to making him basically immune to being taken by surprise. Then a solid punch to the face and night crawler has brain damage if not dead.

    Morals on. Spiderman no contest

Morals off. Spiderman though slightly more difficult.

  • I considered spidey sense when writing OP but wasn't sure how it would work against Nightcrawler's teleporting. From my understanding Nightcrawler doesn't teleport through our dimension but through another. Essentially, his teleportation opens a portal to another dimension which he go through in an instance and then back into our dimension. If he's completely out of our dimension (virtually untraceable) and enters back at the speed of light, would there be a moment to both sense and have his body react in time? Reading through that thread I linked in OP, Nightcrawler's teleportation so fast that he can essentially be in multiple places at once (at least as perceived by the people around him due to the speed in which he appears/acts/and then disappears) and has done this in several fights so it's not like theres a lot of space in time from when he appears and attacks.

I think Spiderman would 100% win in the no moral fight too if he could sense Nightcrawler's teleportation but if he can't, the win would go to Nightcrawler. Spidey's strength level is 25+ tons so the moment he lands a hit on him, Nightcrawler's done for. Sadly there's no canon content that I know of that can give a definitive answer to the question of whether or not he can sense Nightcrawler's teleportation in particular. Pretty sure he's dodged a teleportation attack before but the way the guy teleported was considerably different from Nightcrawler's and not as fast.

I wouldn't use the MCU or Fox movies for accurate portrayals of their powers or personalities. I feel like the MCU just nerfed Spiderman so hard power-wise but I won't get into it. Personality is also pretty different imo and I know he's not stupid in the movies but he feels a lot less intelligent especially with a lot of his decision making, plus I dislike how dependent he is on other people.... particularly Ironman. I think they should focus on giving him more emotional depth and complexity too, they gloss over Uncle Ben too much for me. It feels like they focus too much on making him seem cute and he feels too sidekicky to me in a lot of the films. Still haven't seen NWH, no spoilers please. I still like the MCU Spiderman though but just don't think he's the most accurate.

And at this point, I'm pretty sure Fox just created a whole new character with similar powers for Nightcrawler because the Nightcrawler in the comics >>>>>>>>> in terms of personality, fighting, and just about anything. Not sure why the movies decided to make him all cowardly and shy like anyone wants that in a superhero.

I do think that in a normal day though, neither of them would fight each other unless if something crazy happened to give a reason to.

In comics Spider sense is kinda cosmic in nature. Spider people from different universes can sense and intersect with each other using it and they can sense threats they can’t see. So Spidey could probably sense night crawler coming through a portal regardless if it links to another dimension.

NC teleporting speed is a good argument. If he teleports too fast for spidey to sense and react physically then it could be game over. But I don’t know if he’s a super fast like light speed level. He has been caught and attacked by obviously non light speed people/machines plenty of times so I don’t think he’s super fast at teleportation. He can be unpredictable which most people would struggle with but like I said spidey sense can be op under most circumstances and it’s lazy writing how spidey gets hit by people he should easily dodge including his villains.

I’m still sticking with Spiderman for both scenarios.

  • If Spidy fought Strange, do you think he would of sense when the portal from Strange would be opened from, and where? If he can't then I don't think he will counter Nightcrawler teleportation. If he can then dealing with Nightcrawler would definitely be easier.

True, but besides films and comics, we really don't have any other sources to compare ): even with the reddit threads, it also do takeaway from the comics. So we can only really go by what we know best. And for any source materials, it's really up to the author to decide. But I think teleportation is just too powerful. Nightcrawler can just teleport Spidy to middle of ocean and wetspider he becomes D:, teleport to volcano, teleport him to kpop stans that's gg. :pepe-sad:

Ok, I've officially put a ridiculous amount of effort into my stupid question but here we go I guess lmao. Decided to look around and seems like he most likely is not able to. Spot also uses dimensional teleportation (though not quite teleportation in his case) in a similar way to Nightcrawler, and Spidey cannot sense his incoming attacks. Did even more research and found some comics where Nightcrawler and Spiderman have crossed over, read through and he canonly gets surprised when Nightcrawler teleports:

    Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men #1

    The Amazing Spider-Man #161 and #162

    Avengers & X-Men: Axis #7

As far as speed goes, the thread I linked said Nightcrawler teleported 800 miles in 1 minute (they actually said under a minute but since no exact time was given, I'll just round up to 1 full minute). He can't safely teleport over 2 miles in one port which means he did a bunch of jumps to go that distance. In order to do that, he would've been jumping 2 miles 6-7 times every second. He also had a "passenger" with him which strains/slows him down so if I want to give him benefit of the doubt, he could teleport even faster on his own with less breaktime needed.

So to my understanding, Spiderman would need to sense and properly react in the milliseconds it would take Nightcrawler to touch his neck or head after teleporting (which he assumingly can't sense) before he teleports again away with his head. I think the fight would be leaning in Nightcrawler's favor if we're going no morals. But if Spiderman does land a hit on him, Nightcrawler would be done for. I think fight to the death between the two just comes down who would be able to touch the other one first with both of them having their own advantages in the fight.

Agree on lazy writing by the way, I wish writers would find a way to give more villains more believable hits on him.

Fair enough, comics also aren't always the most accurate either and love to retcon so it's not like I should be taking them as the absolute truth for these guys' abilities.

Just drop him in the middle of a kpop concert and say he called the most popular member ugly RIP. There is no rage like kpop fan rage :pepewash: (jokes aside, I think if he tried to do a teleport & drop trick on Spidey, it wouldn't work. Nightcrawler would need to go for the head to have a chance to win against him. Any other method would end in Spiderman winning.)

Actually, thinking about it further, he should be even faster than what I stated considering the page provided by OP in the other thread had him exhausted which would assumingly be slowing him as he ported each time (+passenger strain). Especially considering that in other parts of the thread, OP talks about him teleporting so fast he appears to be in multiple places at once. Dodges lightning and teleports team members away from mine explosions amongst other things. They also listed him teleporting away from a bullet that was fired from a gun right against his head (effectively not getting hit at all). Ignore my earlier bs calculation, pretty sure hes faster than that.
