The Death Of R&B As A Driver Of Girl Groups Sound

Trends change. And nothing last forever.

But I'd argue one of the biggest losses to girl group music as kpop has pushed forward is the large scale move away from R&B as a fundamental pillar of the collective kpop girl group sound.

I wish it was still a driving force in kpop girl groups.

(My fondness may have to do with me growing up during the peak of 90s R&B in the West when it was huge. Which translates to a particular love of many circa 2nd gen girl who embraced this style)

There's something about heavily R&B influenced pop that hits something deep.

I will always miss it.

And will forever wait for it to come back in a big way.

I lament the death of this stuff on the regular.
