why does suju suffer so much from ageism?

  • i didn't know much about 2nd gen idol, but i also see suju dragged for being old, should be going to retirement homes. i know all old groups are dragged but tvxq, snsd,... don't seem to be hated as much.

honestly i think it's because of three things:

    1. the scandals some of the members got into

    2. the lack of truly *hardcore* stans they have

    3. military service

one of the main reasons is because none of the songs have been truly memorable to the public since "Devil"/"Magic" (2015), and i know this because i've been a stan for a WHILE and many k-pop stans appreciated it- more than they appreciate their music now. i was around to witness peaked interest in them. it's sad because their recent music is actually good, but people lost interest because of enlistment- and to some people it makes them look "old" and "incomplete". waiting is really hard for some people and it's easy to move on to the newest thing & then look back and criticize what seems ancient.

now, i'm not saying they don't make good music now- because they absolutely do. but it's easy for them to be a target of ageism because their serious group activities have kinda fizzled out. you don't see them doing variety shows or stuff like that like they used to- which means less content. with less content means less material to consume and it's harder to maintain being a fan. there's already a lack of 2nd gen stans in general on here (SHINee and SNSD being the lovely exceptions) these days but Suju stans are pretty much a rarity from what I've found.

another major factor might be the scandals. now, i'm not well educated on what was done and said so i can't speak on them. though as we all know, kpop stans will say anything as long as they believe it is justified- which probably includes ageism against Suju because of their problematic past. once again i can't agree nor disagree with them, but that could be one of the main reasons.

i wish i could tag my name oh well but i think it's obvious who i am lmao even though i capitalize my analysis posts :borahae::eyes:

  • suju had some hardcore fans though. the ageism is just apparent because some suju members actually look their age.

  • I would say Super Junior still has hardcore fans the group been around since 2005 and still does decent in album sales after all. Kpop stans just like using age as an insult against groups they do not like and they generally don't seem to like Super Junior in the west for the progressive virtue signaling that western ifans do. Also they seem more active then TVXQ and SNSD so people more rest on memories of those groups whereas with Super Junior they have to cope with the fact that they simply seem unstoppable in terms of group activities still.

  • cause people are bitter over the fact SuJu is still thriving ;-)

  • They've been a group for 16 years and some feel they are past it and should disband, their music is declining but they certainly don't look "old."

  • kpop stans: I hope my faves stay together for 40 years

also kpop stans: eww that group has been around for 7 years? take them to the old folks home

  • idk maybe because all the scandals they've gotten in?

  • kpop stans: I hope my faves stay together for 40 years

also kpop stans: eww that group has been around for 7 years? take them to the old folks home

    correction - newer kpop stans.

    There's a difference

  • Because idols are not allowed to age. How many times have you heard that Dara, Irene, Xiumin do not look their age despite they all being in their 30s? Same goes for Super Junior, but I agree with whoever said Donghae is still one of the hottest idols out there.

  • frankly it's even worse for ggs.

ageism is real in the kpop industry

  • Super Junior does have some problematic members so age is an easy excuse to attack them with.
