I’ve actually never noticed, my whole life, that my mother rarely said “I’m proud of you” because my dad (who is not Asian) made up for that. He always took the time to say “I love you” “good job” “I’m proud of you” when my mom never did, if at all, half heartedly. I was always the first one telling my mom I loved her instead of her saying it to me.
But when I look back, it’s almost uncanny to see all the stuff she did like that, but that I was able to brush it off, feel good, and make it through because of my dad. If not for him, and my parents were both like my mom, I probably wouldn’t be here today.
