  • no.

promo is attending music show, radio, weekly idol, studio choom, variety shows and k-cons

  • yes, they are trying to promote their songs using tiktok.

  • Duh. If they're trying to get a craze going their on the account to their millions of followers then it's obviously a form of promoting.

  • Of course. You can buy ads there, pay influencers to create content and/or promote you/your product and/or create your content with the intent to get attention in the hopes of going viral (and gaining more attention). All of this is promotion. Even if a group is just jumping on the latest trend that is trending in Tik Tok, they are - at the end of the day - trying to promote their group.

  • okay, i know nobody has any reason to believe me so i don’t care if you do or don’t. but i’m a professional in the music industry and tiktok is literally taking over the western music industry. like, turn on the radio and 70% of the songs now are tiktok songs that got famous thru tiktok. my manager is always bugging me constantly to post on tiktok every day because inside industry professionals are hyping it up as the “new” way to promote.

so YES, absolutely. it’s one of today’s most surefire way to get a song trending now. and when releasing a song today, tiktok is now added to the boxes to check for promotion on socials. if you have the money to put up into ads, you can get a trend going easily. not to mention that on tiktok, it’s not as obvious to tell ads apart from regular content- not as much as say instagram which will automatically label the post as promoed for everyone to see.

think about the Lalisa challenge. at first, it wasn’t suuuuper popular but then when they got the dance on insta, tiktok, etc…. the song climbed to, like, the second most #1s for a female kpop song on itunes. and soon to be #1 for that record. i believe that like 90% of that success is cuz of the Lalisa challenge. and i also believe that’s why some were disappointed by the solo, because they simplified the dance and all so that EVERYONE could do the dance on tiktok. it’s a super common promotion method that i know for a fact is a huge focus of sony specifically. (sony is where most of my connections are) so it only makes sense k-pop is getting on tiktok too now. every time i open social media, Lalisa challenge is everywhere.

again, you have no reason to believe me about being in the music industry. but for real, tiktok is a huge game changer for the whole industry
