This is all due to the global warming. It's recordet the highest since the nearby river "Ruhr" ever overflooded and it was even said it's also the fastest the river had to be that full. We have curently very bad rain in my area and the city wich is just 7km away from me is so heavy demaged that the people got forced to stay home and the police even wrote on Twitter that they will punich everyone who they see risking their own lifes by going out of their homes right now ... its so bad
The city next to my city is under water - people are not allowed to leave their homes

I live there, it's not true that people aren't allowed to leave their homes and police also never wrote that, it's just advised against, no punishment. I don't think it'd be legal even, see how during the worst parts of the pandemic there was never a strict lockdown because of Grundgesetz. Also not the entire city is under water, for example my whole area isn't, it'd make no sense to outright ban people from leaving there house here.

me: futilely turning off extra lights to help global warming slow.

I live on the edge of the Ruhr river as well and our garden has all but disappeared into the water. It's pretty close to the house right now. Thankfully they aren't expecting the water to rise much further meaning we're likely going to be fine.
More than 100 people over on the other side weren't as lucky though and had to be rescued last night when the water began to rise quickly and surprised them.
Thus far, the only thing we lost is our canoes which got swept away, but who cares...
I'm pretty worried about a deer that's standing on a tiny old bridge behind the house at the moment. Only the very tip of the bridge is still above the water so it has absolutely nowhere left to go and firefighters and police told me they're too busy to try and rescue a deer. Which is understandable, but I wish I could help it. It must be so frightened.
