What Exactly Was The Melon Chart Reform, Why Did It Happen, And How Did It Affect Kpop Groups?

  • I think that's the best thread for you to understand

  • saw some twit account. not savvy but atleast i understand there:

The key point of change is that the charts will now only take into account one stream per person, per song, every 24 hours. Streaming the song multiple times in a day will now not affect the song’s entry into charts or count as streams. This could be a huge blow to fandoms that rely heavily on mass-streaming, as previously up to one stream per hour was the norm.

  • The songs start from the bottom and goes up for the first 24hrs if it can enter the 24hits top100 chart. Based on uls.

Before u had the realtime where the songs used to debut high due to kpop fandoms. The fandoms could keep a song afloat on the realtime for hours but now the songs have to climb from the bottom to the top. Fandom can give it a push and then the public will.

Fandom manipulation has reduced by a lot.

  • I think before, it counted the amount of streams per hour for charting and now it just counts unique listeners. So fandoms aren’t able to artificially bump their faves up the charts by streaming over and over.

The effect of this has been idol groups charting lower than ever, especially boy groups. 4th gen boy groups can’t even stay on melon 24 hour hits for more than a day now.

  • No expert in charts but changes in charts were made to reflect what the general public was listening not just one group of fans-streaming was just fan organised sajaegi. I'm glad it's gone. Groups didn't lose anything they just got realistic results that more accurately showcases how interested gp is in their songs.
