Korean Sunscreens Scandal Act 2

  • If you are not into K-beauty or just missed it, 1 month ago there was a scandal with Purito sunscreen which protection was rechecked in Europe and it turned out that it was 2 times lower than the brand claimed (watch this if you need more details). Then another Korean brand named Klairs stopped selling their sunscreen because it had the same formulation. And now we have more to come.

Changed the title of the thread from “Korean Suscreens scandal act 2” to “Korean Sunscreens Scandal Act 2”.
  • But i feel like most sunscreens have lower protection than stated...

I know that there was a inconsistency of claims of some famous western brands, but I never heard about such a big difference as it was with Purito. 19 real SPF vs 50 claimed. It was a real scam. It could actually harm people who have relied on its protection, for example after laser treatment and other cosmetic procedures that require highest SPF protection.

I've read about this regarding Purito.

That's a shame, but I don't know if they're doing this intentionally. These brands are renowned brands that have succeeded too much to resort to trying to cheat customers out of their money like this.

Whatever the case, I hope that more testing is conducted by these companies to ensure that their products meet the standards they're claiming.

  • I've only used Laneige and The Face Shop out of Korean skincare brands. The Face Shop is a LG subsidiary and Laneige is under Amore Pacific.
