personally, i dont care as much as to let it change my perception of them just but i feel like our physical being is just as tied to our identity as our mind or soul and all should be treated with respect and care so i would try to help anyone build their self esteem if it meant preventing surgery

as for family, they always tend to be more critical but they also will be the most real with you so imo its pretty good as you can measure yourself from the eyes of others most realistically with your family
