  • Listen to The 1975's latest album, "Notes On a Conditional Form".

I realised I didn't sell this. And I should. This was my second favourite album of last year, and I think it's the most significant, important, and ambitious pop/rock album since Kid A. I actually think in ambition it reaches even further, I think it's the most ambitious mainstream album since 4Hero's Two Pages. Only everyone hates it and thinks it's a chaotic pretentious mess!

    Time's gonna tell!!!!

Okay, look, you know how the k-poppies are always going on about duality.

Imagine if they encountered Matt Healy's quintillionolity.

    Just who is this dude???

We can try and find out by looking at just the music videos that were released in support of this one album.

    In no particular order,

Is Matt Healy a New Wave rocker?

Besides the fact that the dude looks and acts like a totally different person in all of these videos... All of these songs sound nothing alike and are in totally different genres.

Not including the above, the album also contains: Americana/country, dancehall, two-step garage, techno, dream-pop/shoegaze, soul/gospel and pop ballads.

Where I disagree with the consensus is that I think it blends it all seamlessly because it uses orchestral ambience and pretty piano pieces as connective tissue. It's like the "real" 1975 are an ambient group that somehow manages to reconfigure their sound palette to create more lively types of music every now and then. It's amazing. I don't know why this album hasn't set the world on fire.
