In "Better Days" -- nominated for an Oscar this year -- Zhou Dongyu and Jackson Yee (of the TFBoys) both played high students though she is actually 9 years older then he is. There was no controversy at all.

im not familiar with both of them, but the closest thing that comes to my mind while clicking this thread is, Wang Yibo and Joe Chen had 18 years age gap, and in their drama, Love Actually, yibo was the 2nd male lead (they kissed tho). so i guess its quite normal/common in c-entertainment.
