As much as I like seeing that more people are beginning to realize how prevalent cultural appropriation is within kpop, kpop fans need to be cautious when calling for a change because I've been noticing several things being lost in the plot:
First is calling any and every little thing cultural appropriation. This often stems from a bad-faith perspective that's meant to belittle/cancel a group. As I've brought up in another thread, disrespect is disrespect. You shouldn't dismiss one situation because a different situation that you see as "worse" goes overlooked.
Second is seeing an idol sagging/throwing up "gang signs"/making gun-imitating gestures/acting "like a gangster" and screaming "THEY ARE COSPLAYING BLACK PEOPLE." Do you mean to tell me that gangs and gang violence only exists within the black community? That, in itself, is disrespectful. The fact that your faves' successful concepts and hit songs that are CLEARLY inspired by black culture can go uncredited, but the moment cultural appropriation controversies arise, its always the bad stuff getting linked to black culture??? What the actual hell? Black culture is so. much. more.
And lastly is simply doing too much. There's is a clear line between criticism and hate. Calling out an idol/group over cultural appropriation is fine. Going as far as to call for them to disband/witch hunting them/nitpicking their every word and action/threats to their lives/literally anything other than "hey, so you messed up and you need to educate yourself" is going too far and at that point, you need to touch grass.
