When was Pokemon's popularity at its peak?

I'd say whenever Pokemon Go was a thing. Even casuals were playing it.

Probably Go's release. That was a phenomenon involving people who had never played the other games.

Totally 2016 for me too — nothing beat the Pokémon GO madness that year lol.

I guess 2016, at least in terms of general awareness, but it is still really really popular these days. I'm a teacher and all the boys love Pokemon still. I think it took off again post-Pokemon Go and the Switch being so popular.

Depends on how you look at it but I'd have to say Pokemon in the late 90s.

Pokemon Go did some of the hugest numbers

but Pokemon on the 90s permeated through multiple facets of everyday culture that is kinda impossible for things to do in modern times.

I'd say 1999-2000 was the absolute peak with the original games and anime craze. Pokemon GO in 2016 was huge but more of a resurgence

I'd say peak was from 1999 to 2002, until Crystal. It was kinda dying from about that point until DP came around, from what I know.
