I'd say whenever Pokemon Go was a thing. Even casuals were playing it.

Probably Go's release. That was a phenomenon involving people who had never played the other games.

Totally 2016 for me too — nothing beat the Pokémon GO madness that year lol.

I guess 2016, at least in terms of general awareness, but it is still really really popular these days. I'm a teacher and all the boys love Pokemon still. I think it took off again post-Pokemon Go and the Switch being so popular.
