The backlash K-pop idols are facing these days is only the beginning

  • The backlash K-pop idols are facing these days is only the beginning, soon, more and more big names and A-list stars will find themselves under the spotlight.

The truth is, K-pop and Western pop operate on fundamentally different standards, and those worlds were never really built to coexist.

Sure, the music is starting to blend : production styles, genre fusion, global collaborations but everything else remains unmistakably K-pop coded.

And honestly, I’m conflicted about whether criticizing them is even fair or not.

On one hand, critique drives change. On the other, what kind of change are we expecting ?

These idols were raised, trained, and selected within a system built on its own rules < beauty before talent, perfection before authenticity >.

They’re simply delivering exactly what the system designed them to deliver.

  • Tbh i kinda agree to some extent

There's obviously some changes that needs to happen in kpop, like minors, busy schedules etc...

It's not normal that minor are debuting while not even finishing middle school, or having minor dropping out of school to focus on training

Recently i saw a video of Chaeyoung talking about how at 16-17yo she had only 30 minutes of sleep everyday cuz she was too busy with Twice schedules and had to balance her schedules with school.

Which i consider is something that no idols should go through for health reasons and even less if they are just minors

But i also feel that the fact that kpop is becoming more popular international is stripping them away from what makes kpop

Cuz western fans are trying too hard to try to turn kpop system into the western industry by trying to applying it the same criteria and exigences

When it's both world very different

And in contrary of just letting kpop be what it is, they are trying to turn it into something that they are used to it and are comfortable with it

When we should find a way to be able to make comments to improve the kpop industry while not trying to completely erase its root and origins to just transform it into a Western industry bis

  • I'm curious, in what kind of context does your bias deserve criticism?

-when they are not trying their best when it's clear that they CAN do better. not all situations are the same and it depends on the situation, context and factors that needs to be evaluated before the criticism is dished out

-when they do something that's controversial and break the social norms and etiquette of society at large, given there is no excuses for such behavior like drink driving, drugs, power tripping for examples.

there's more but we'll leave it at this.

  • This, this in particular, needs to be reconsiderd

That’s because K-pop has become more lucrative than ever, and they simply can’t ignore it.

So they figure they might as well impose their own rules, under their conditions. Unfortunately, the fans only end up encouraging this change.

I think we’ve entered the era of K-West Pop. Yes, that’s what it is ( a new genre xD )
