So Kiikii's career landed and then drove straight off a cliff right?

  • Often in music, one way to make something fresh is to take a well loved thing and give it a little twist. With Kiikii we finally found out what NewJeans would be like if they had grown up on a farm with nothing to wear except Grandma's hand-me-downs.

Jokes aside, this was an amazing debut. A really well crafted song, a beautiful music video (I presume shot in New Zealand) - I even really liked the farmcore aesthetic. I had high hopes.

Wow, their follow-up songs are bad. Like really bad. O.O levels of bad.

Their attempts at drill-style hip hop seems so forced it comes across as parody to me. (I cannot watch this without cringing.)

And it seems I might not be alone. I was recently looking at MV views for comparisons, and look at Kiikii's numbers:

    I Do Me - 12M views

    Debut Song - 1.7M views

    BTG - 2.8M views

    Groundwork - 776K views!?

    :pepe-peaking:

Do you think we'll see a reversal back to the style of I Do Me for their next release? Otherwise I think they run the risk of being the next StayC.

  • I don't know how to explain it but to me it feels like everything they release is disconnected to each other

and the way they are promoting and the image starship is pushing on them also feels disconnected

I know exactly what you mean. There’s loads of ingredients in the mix that I love, from the vintage fashion to the farms and greenhouses, and the attempt at some more quirky songs alongside a youthful pop sound, but it doesn’t quite join up like it should. It’s like Starship themselves don’t have a clear picture so they are fumbling round in the dark. I think it might be a skill issue (with Starship).

    yeah to summarize it exactly

i would say they have the ingredients to make a good recipe

but they doesn't have the recipe to use these ingredients well yet

  • but all those songs tho were from same album

so basically they've had one good, you can even say hit song on an album

so we should wait until the next release to judge anything

because there is plenty of groups which don't have even that one hit on album
