When I said, "Isn’t it strange to say idols shouldn’t date?",

    Jeon Soyeon responded:

“Honestly, you don't have to hide it. But if you choose not to, then you have to be prepared for the possibility of losing some fans, and that’s fine.

But if you want to keep your fans and date at the same time, I don't think that works. I think that's contradictory. That's just being greedy.

If you want to keep your career unaffected, then when you're in a relationship, you absolutely shouldn't make it obvious.

And if you do want to show it, then you have to be ready to lose fans.

Putting it all out there with lovestagram and dropping all kinds of hints, but still wanting to hold on to your fans? That's just pure greed.”

    1. This really feels like such a valid point… These days, a lot of fandoms seem to have the attitude of: “Date if you want, just don't get caught. And don't neglect your main job or communication with fans.”
but if you're going to make it obvious, you really have to be prepared for fans to leave.

    2. She's right

    3. I agree

    4. No but this is right, but why are people acting weird when they see fans leaving the fandom after they date? ㅋㅋㅋ

    5. That's right, because they're selling an image

    6. If they were super careful but still got caught, then that's just unfortunate but it can't be helped. But if they were dropping hints everywhere and posting lovestagram, then honestly, they brought it on themselvesㅠ

    7. Honestly, I don't really care if some fans leave. The real issue is when people start insulting them in the process. Dating isn't a crime, so I don''t get why people feel the need to mock or bash them

    8. Same goes for fans. If someone decides to stop being a fan just because their idol is dating, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just move on, find someone else to support, or focus on your own life.
What's important is not to insult or mock them, or act like dating is some kind of crime for idols

    9. This is accurate

    10. This is so true. The idol industry is legendary. This is a red ocean, full of people who are all outstanding in looks, talent, and fan service. If A and B are equal in all those aspects, but A is dating and B isn't? Most people are naturally going to lean toward liking B

  • in some kind i agree

i wouldn't leave a fandom cause my bias is dating

but Idols know the risk of the job, you know how some fans are rude and possessive

so i agree that if you make it obvious by posting pictures on instagram etc... you shouldn't be mad that people leave your fandom when you always knew that it was a risk

but if you get caught when you tried to hide it, then it's unfortunate for you

i guess that's why i feel more bad for idols that get exposed by Dispatch more than idols that get exposed with instagram etc..

  • only for non-established kpop idols though...

I think once an idol is established like 4 or 5 years post debut then the potential backlash is lessened - it will never be gone completely but lessened

I also think that once a group has renewed even if all the members don't renew that also sorta acts as a benchmark or standard (not sure of the right words) for fans to worry less about dating issues
