When I saw the name of Lee Jiah, best known as Seotaiji's first wife , I suddenly thought about Shim Eunkyung.
At some point she was rumored to be their daughter.
Shim Eunkyung's star was rising when she starred in the movie Miss Granny.
But her career in Korea stalled and she moved to Japan, where she became the only non-Japanese to win the Best Actress award in Japan's Academy Awards.
But then she stopped showing up in Japanese movies and dramas, and now returned quietly to star in lesser known projects.
Meanwhile, the actress Lee Jieun, whose stature as an actress was quite low while Shim Eunkyung was making rounds, now stars in When Life Gives Tangerines, and despite of the inconvenient fact that her priority is in singing, spending more time fighting BTS, IVE, aespa and other newer acts while not traveling to Japan with an actor or speculating on real estate, is reportedly the highest paid actress in Korea after Song Hyekyo.
It is kind of funny that Lee Jieun, whose chief occupation is not an actress, has reached a higher stature than Shim Eunkyung and all the actresses around her reported age group (although she is significantly older than all the humans now around).
