Do you like romance fiction?

  • I think I am a kinda romantic person.

Like most of the fanfics that I write are romantic ones.

Despite that, I don't read many romance novels though.

But the reason behind that is because I fear that it has too "spicy" contents in it, I'd rather have it pure and innocent.

I would expect less of that content in a classic book or YA. (but some YA novels hat I have read also have spicy contents in it)

But there are times when I read a romance book and feel kinda "meh" about it, regardless of whether or not it contains anything spicy. Like the book is not making my heart flutter, my cheeks turn pink or butterflies tickle in my belly.

There are some romance books that I kinda like though. At the moment, I can only think about "You, Me and Our Heartstrings" by Melisssa See.

I watch a lot of kdramas (and dramas from other Asian countries) though and I feel like I prefer kdramas over romance books.

I feel like most kdramas are romance though.

Despite the fact that most kdramas are pretty cliché, I enjoy watching them.

For romance movies, I don't like Hallmark movies because I feel like they are too cheesy for me to handle.

There are some romance movies that I like though. I like "Il Mare" and also "The 8-Year Engagement".

I guess that for romance I prefer stuff that isn't overly cheesy. (kdramas are perhaps an exception)

And there are some romance movies I like where things are only "sunshines and rainbows" and feel a bit more realistic in a way.

Maybe also when romance isn't the main genre. LotR isn't romance, but oh my... the way I felt while reading a kinda romantic part in The Return of The King :nervousk:

  • Hmmm yeah I have really enjoyed reading, in the past, a story about two guys showering together and it was super romantic when they kissed after doing other stuff. I enjoy the kind of romantic stories that involve X rated content. The most romantic movie I've ever seen has like 30 minutes of sex scenes.

But this only happens , usually , when I find the people involved in the sex scenes attractive. If not I look away when they are doing X rated stuff.

  • It depends on my mood. I'm not a huge romance reader, even though I'm romantic too. I don't mind it though if a book or a movie has a romantic subplot. There are a few exceptions, but if the whole book is only based around a romance, I find them lacking a bit. I need something more from the story, except just the romance.

And when I do read or watch a romance, I also like it to not have toxic or dysfunctional elements, unless it's justified by the story, approached well and not romanticised or showed as a normal thing.

  • Not terribly versed in romance novels but the only one I've read (The Goldbug Variations by Richard Powers), I enjoyed a lot.

As for movies, The Fisher King ranks as a personal favorite. Its a big influence on a novel I'm working on which could also be considered romantic in a way.

  • Yes. Not too sappy or spicy.I like fantasy romance with heart fluttering moments. Not the werewolf/ vampire kind.

But something quirky having touch of fantasy elements.
