It's Mid Autumn Festival today (Chuseok) so wondering if people have tried Mooncake?

  • Today is mid autumn festival (or in SK they call it Chuseok)

In China and many surrounding countries we eat mooncakes

the fillings are usually sweet - red bean or lotus seed but there is a variety of flavours

So back to the original question - have you had a mooncake and if so did you like it?

  • Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to those that celebrate!!! Hope that everyone that celebrates have a lovely time with family and friends and definitely enjoy traditional moon cake and tea.

I also enjoy the traditional ones with lotus, nuts, and salted egg yolk with oolong tea.

Thank you! You’re awesome for this. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to you, too. I’ve been celebrating it since I was a kid, but the festivities have been simplified to appreciating a mooncake and observing the moon as I got older. I wish I could attend a festival or something of that sort. The lanterns are nice to look at.

I suppose it’s mid-autumn in Asia, but here in the U.S., we’re only just about to begin fall. The weather’s been getting cooler, which I like! It’s a nice feeling overall.

I’ll make sure to enjoy a mooncake with some tea. I hope you do, too!

  • My moon watching essential are some moon cake, good tea, and some Chinese music - usually Teresa Teng for my parents or just erhu instrumentals.

I really miss autumn in the US - the cooling of the weather, autumn colors and I had such wonderful childhood memories of the season from Halloween to Thanksgiving too. Not the taking of leaves tho but have to say still better than shoveling snow or de-icing driveways and sidewalks lol

But I can’t deal with harsh winters hence I am back in tropical SE Asia. Durian moon cake is popular here but I don’t like it lol

  • I definitely prefer the fillings that are smooth without the salted yolk or seeds. Though they are on the too sweet side.

Had no idea it was today (or yesterday?) since so few people have gifted us any mooncakes (we're Viet in an Asian heavy area of the US).
