Police officers are starting to use AI chatbots to write crime reports. Will they hold up in court?

I don't want them to use AI so that they can show their own efforts. AI has no brain, no small intestine, etc., but a human does. A police officer can (and should) write a police report exactly as the events of an alleged crime occurred without the use of AI.

  • It really depends on how AI is influencing these reports. As the person above said, are officers just throwing these up as templates and editing them, or is the AI putting in details or leaving some things out? There are lots of encounters that officers need to write down. However, this is one of those areas where you really want to look into what the AI us actually doing. I would be inclined to say they should manually write down everything and rely on AI for nothing until the program is fully vetted. And even then they need to manually review things.
