At the momement a row of rich and racist acting people made (as so often) the German island Sylt going viral on the internet and everyone is ashamed.
Its the typical rich snob people in their early 20s who as per usual hang around the island Sylt (which is known to be the place with the most rich people in all of Germany) and however these people blame themself on the internet, especially TikTok. It all started when a video went viral of a row of racist rich people partying on Sylt yelling stuff like "Ausländer raus" (= foreigners out) and other racist stuff, even making videos where they said they wished for H*tler to come back
Now these people are allover the media and news in Germany for their rude and racist behavier and that there are so many of them on the island, which makes it feel for people as like if every single person on that island would be racist (that would be around 14K people)
Sylt is a popular holiday destination and a hot spot for rich people, the island also went a lot viral for many different reasons, but this case is just so fucked up.
Translation from an article:
A video of people celebrating and singing racist slogans has sparked outrage nationwide. But the recording is also causing a stir abroad.
A video from Sylt has sparked anger and rage in particular. It shows young people singing racist slogans to the song "L'amour toujours" by the Italian musician Gigi D'Agostino at a party. On top of that, one of the participants gave a Hitler salute and mimicked a Hitler moustache.
The recording is not only causing a stir in Germany. The scandal is also being dealt with abroad. t-online provides an overview of the reactions from various countries.
Italy
In Gigi D'Agostino's home country, all relevant media are reporting on the incident on the North Frisian island. The public broadcaster Rai writes of a "new scandal in Germany, where racism among the youngest is threatening to make a comeback". The newspaper "Corriere della Sera" is surprised that the scandal occurred in "German Capri", "where a house costs millions of euros". It is not, as the prejudice says, a poor town in the former GDR.
Sylt is described in several media as "the island where Klopp and Schäuble also spend the winter". For "Il Manifesto", the case makes it clear "that Italy is not the only country that has not dealt with its recent past".
France
The French radio station France Inter sees the video as confirmation that a new target group for racist ideas has been reached. After all, the island of Sylt is "probably the best that Germany has to offer in terms of luxury".
The media also reminds us of a Europe-wide study: According to it, 76 percent of black people surveyed in Germany say they have experienced discrimination on the basis of their skin color in the past five years, reports the news portal "Eurotopics". The number is worrying. "It makes Germany one of the European countries in which racism is most widespread," the report says. In France and Italy, the numbers are half as high.
"Le Monde" puts the many reactions to the video into context. It speaks volumes about the "stressful climate that currently prevails in Germany". Criticism is leveled at the always-repeated process of such scandals. "A video that circulates on social networks, those responsible for the incident who claim not to have heard anything, and the police who initiate an investigation for incitement to hatred."
Austria
The Austrian "Kleine Zeitung" has little understanding for the reactions in Germany: "Official Germany has been reacting completely excessively for days," it says in a commentary. "Under pressure from the streets, some actors have now lost their jobs and livelihoods. So: excommunication instead of resocialization. Middle Ages instead of modern times," "Eurotopics" quotes the Austrian media.
