Yes. As a westerner, the concept was completely alien to me when I first got into Kpop.

Outside of Kpop concerts? Probably not. We just don't have the same fan culture as S. Korea (or the same clever strategy for additional merchandising, depending on how you look at it.) Most people are too busy holding up their phones during concerts at this point anyway.

I think maybe J-Pop concerts might have fans with lightsticks.
