I'm pretty sure that's a Def Leppard song, though.

Led Zeppelin wins major copyright battle
for 'Stairway to Heaven' ; 2020.03.10
*** Begin Quote ***
The original lawsuit filed in 2014 claimed that the guitar introduction to (Led Zeppelin) "Stairway to Heaven" -- yes, the one you're singing in your head -- infringed on the copyright of the instrumental of (Spirit) "Taurus." ... A request was granted and a Panel of 11 judges heard the Appeal in September 2019 ... "The Trial and Appeal process has been a long climb up the Stairway to Heaven," Judge Margaret McKeown wrote in the 73-page decision for the Court.

I still don't get the hate for Nickelback.
I don't think it is hatred as much as annoyance at the blatant lazy song writing. I can understand why the repetitive riffs would get on someone's nerves. It is common with a very large amount of early 2000s popular bands, and I can only listen to them now when in a certain mood after years of my adolescence of them being aggressively overplayed. Like for instance today I am in one of those weird moods but normally if they pop in my playlist on a day to day basis when shuffling my library. I skip them.

Its early internet hate is what I meant. Not death-threat-sending-on-social-media kind of hate. But to your point, yeah, bands like Nickelback were a dime-a-dozen back then but somehow the internet pointed to this particular band to be the one to get the ridicule. Puddle of Mudd was edgy as heck and I don't mean that in pushing the genre forward kind of edge or The Calling or even 3 Doors Down to a degree. I'm no Nickelback fan but it mystifies me why they were singled out among a sea of cookie cutter bands.

I completely agree, Puddle of Mudd and Staind were miles worse than Nickelback imo.

Oh my god, I forgot about Staind. Yeah, looking back there were a lot of cringy bands back then but you know what? That was a magical time in my life. The early aughts. I had no money, in between jobs, but man, I had a grand time with my buddies before we went our separate ways. My life was a whole lot simpler back then. I would love to go back in a heartbeat, relive everything, cringe and all lmao

Would the eagles count as dad rock?

I must agree on that point.
