[BTS CONTENT] Remember when intl ARMY begged BigHit for years for an international forum for BTS?? What are your thoughts on Weverse now?

  • I remember emailing (since 2017) and tweeting non-stop @ BigHit (as well as ENG subs that we are getting now) that Daum Fancafe was not at all easy for International ARMY to maneuver. Then they finally made Weverse and I hate almost everything about it? :pepe-sad:

If not for the lives of BTS members and their ticketing, I would have already uninstalled the app. What are your thoughts on it now, AKP ARMY?

  • It’s better than the BTS Daum’s fancafe for sure. I can’t level up and the questions were crazy hard!! Not to mention you need to know Korean lol

I agree. That was a literally nightmare. But they had to sort out transferring BTS from Daum to Weverse and I think that was also frustrating. Then the Vlive thing too. I wouldn't hate Weverse so much if they didn't overprice their shipping and if there was a way to keep other kpop stans off BTS comment section.

  • Weverse is meh but far more egalitarian than Daum, which was so inaccessible and excluded international fans in every way even though i-fans were often contributing just as much support financially and otherwise. The inequitable nature of Daum also frequently led to k-fans lording it over i-fans because they felt they were superior and their voices mattered more- and they were treated like they were superior so they weren't wrong.

The common refrain was often, "well if you want access learn Korean!" which is stupid because not everyone has the access or time needed to learn (or the money). Sure you can learn on your own but it's going to be much easier if you have help. That will often cost money at some point.

I failed dismally trying to learn Korean on my own so I pay my friend to tutor me. $60 a week for 2 hours of language lessons twice a week (4 hours total), which I do before I start my work day. I've done this for over 3 years, while also buying the Learn! Korean with BTS books, a yearly subscription to Lingo Deer and Lingo Deer Plus for two years (I let it lapse this year because it's outlived it's usefulness).

I never bothered to add all that up but it's thousands of dollars to ensure I learn the language thoroughly and properly. I'm doing it as a hobby and I'm privileged enough to be able to pay for it. My point is that telling people to "just learn Korean" to access Daum Cafe was ignorant as fuck and for this reason, I'm glad that weverse exists because it felt real shitty to be treated as less than.

  • i actually like it as user, i'm not much of social media person (unless for data analysis) but i found the ux really easy while i don't get daum fancafe at all

if anything, the ones that turns me off from weverse is the users because weverse army is kinda conglomeration of worst army from insta, facebook, quora, and amino app, that's why i really need "hide comment" function for live because the headache i get reading it... :pepe-cross::pepe-spray::pepe-slash::pepe-firing:
