Should JYPE revamp its method of selecting members/creating girl groups?

  • Everyone's keep saying that the girls are really talented but i don't see any proof of it. i cannot listen to any of their content to see it for myself and get to know them. I cannot stand their music. Music is the issue, please make better music

  • JYP groups tend to have a lot of "filler" members such as Twice and Got7. Even Itzy feels kind of like they have a couple filler members, despite being a smaller group. By filler I mean not much personality that sticks out, no vocal skill that jumps out etc.

  • If JYP had his way Twice would just have been 6 members and no Tzuyu, Mina or Sana.

Wait, what? :wow: What does this mean? First time I hear this.

Not sure if JYP's methods are outdated. All companies make their own strategic decisions and moves to make their groups stand out, it seems JYP's just doesn't work as effectively as it did in 2nd gen and 3rd gen. At least not as good as HYBE seems to be doing with their girl groups.

But personally, I think it's just song catchiness and promotion style.

If you come back with catchy songs, you'll chart high on (Korean) charts, and JYP had the tendency to not highlight a single member in promotions for their newer groups, like they used to do with Suzy. That has some advantages but also disadvantages.

  • Jyp's music is fine for the most part. It's just that it's become popular to talk about Jyp is releasing bad music now bc of a few misses in Korea. But personally I've still really liked most of the jyp girl group songs these past couple years (barring Cheshire and the Scientist) and don't feel the need to jump on this band wagon. And I think jyp has some of the most charismatic and warm girl group members out there.

I agree, Scientist and some of TWICE's other recent songs just didn't have that impact and catchiness that songs like TT, Cheer Up and others from their peak era had.

On the other hand, some other songs of TWICE's let's say 'post-BEP era' are actually great songs in their own right, I personally find Cry For Me and The Feels on my main k-pop playlist, I like them that much.

My take is that their more recent albums and songs fit the taste of international k-pop fans and music fans better, where for Koreans it was TWICE's earlier songs they liked more and their recent songs less.

Added to this the fact that the competition has become more and stronger with a lot of new trending groups that have appeared and gobbled up the limited attention span and attention scope of the Korean general public.

Even Blackpink didn't chart as highly and strongly in South Korea in 2022 as it used to do with their former comebacks.

  • Twice's decline on the chart is very drastic while BP still did well although not as amazing as their last comeback. I wouldn't justify Twice's recent comebacks flopping using BP lol.

  • Basically we have Pre-TWICE and Post-TWICE as a comparison.

Pre-TWICE would have debut 6Mixx so it would be no Dahyun, Chaeyoung, Tzuyu, Mina and Momo as Sana was in 6Mixx. Pre-TWICE JYPE GGs are Wondergirls and miss A

Sixteen, the Show that picked TWICE's members proved that JYPE and JYPark were out of touch with Kpop fans. Kpop fans are people that are avid Kpop followers that will pay money for Albums, Merchandise and Concerts. The result for Sixteen was, the top 7 most popular members throughout the Series made it into TWICE, then JYPark increased it to 9 members.

If you watch Sixteen, you should spot the contestants that weren't popular in Votes that made it into TWICE, although the last vote was rigged to favor long term trainees :P

Post-TWICE is Itzy, NiziU and NMIXX, while their Song Charting has been worse than their Seniors but they earn a hell of a lot more money than them, of course except TWICE.

But the biggest change is the Songs we are getting from the Juniors as their Title Songs are made for a Stage which means for Kpop Fans that are buying Albums, Merch and Concert Tickets.

JYPE Divisions have moved away from low earning Digital Sales to targetting fans that dream of seeing their biases live.

JYPE are the top dogs for GGs, they have a Japanese GG that has done 4 Dome Concerts and soon to be an American GG while the other Kpop companies are stuck in the past...

SME are bringing back Grandma GG members which Irene feels young, while YGE thows off their 2nd hand GGs to a Division before preparing for the younger Generation while Sausage Factory Big Hit, I mean Hybe have bought the Bakery next door to make their Buns.

JYPE's training system will continue to evaluate and train their next gen GG Idols and judging NMIXX the level for Korean GG Idols is at a huge standard.

Chasing Korean Digital Charts for GGs is outdated because the current 4th Gen GG are massive album sellers
