Why are album sales and legacy separate?

  • Whenever theres a list of the best kpop groups of all time the metrics used is always success. Mostly physical and digital album sales. What said writer deems as quality music is never taken into consideration.

Comparing generations is impossible obviously. The NewJeans vs Twice comparison is as pointless as the Twice vs SNSD comparison used to be. NewJeans for example has already surpassed 95% of girl groups in total sales with 5 songs yet no one is crazy enough to put them in a tier list with those same legendary 2nd and 3rd gen girl groups they are spanking right now.

If you look at the highest grossing films of all time they are never adjusted for inflation cause if they were then "Gone With the Wind" would remain #1 forever instead of whatever the latest Marvel movie is.

So why is that? Are legendary groups built upon their album sales or what they accomplished as artists? If NewJeans is already top 10 selling group ever then why aren't they already more legendary than Kara and Wonder Girls and Red Velvet and GFriend?
