Does YG ruin Treasure’s potential?

  • In 2017/2018, Ikon and Winner were scoring hits like Love Scenario, Yedam was the star trainee, viral videos of his covers popped up everyday. Treasure was supposed to be the next hit boy group from YG with Yedam as main producer. Now, it’s 2022, Treasure scores no hits, sell less than Le sserafim/Nmixx and Yedam is leaving. What went wrong with YG’s management with the group?

do they really sell less than those girl groups? how many did they sell for their latest album?

With ikon, even though they had a hit with Love Scenario… sadly it didn’t translate that much to their overall popularity. Yunhyeong even said while many people know the song, people still don’t know who exactly is in ikon.

I followed Treasure during YGTB but lost interest after YG decided to put them in such a huge group (with filler members). I guess YG wanted to go for building huge fandom like SM groups compared to GP interest as it’ll generate more quick profit.

For Yedam, YG should have let him go solo or at least put him in a group with less members so he can shine. Pretty sure Yedam picked YG cuz he thought he would end up being in a small group like their seniors Big Bang, 2NE1, etc. What a waste.

  • Yedam is overrated.

  • It was mostly bad luck. They debuted around that time of YG and YG boy groups being uncovered as sleazy one after the next. (And in case an innercircle says anything, a Winner member admitted setting up a girl to be threatened by YG). You couldn't blame people for losing their appetite for YG boygroups. It was not the time to ask them to learn 12 new names.

But ultimately if the songs had been good enough they would have risen above all that. Their music is generic. Their TT's sound like Seventeen's b-sides.

  • Can't ruin what they never had

  • People need to stop blaming the amount of members. Seventeen and NCT have a lot of members and are successful:

    Yedam is overrated.

    The music was generic.

There are more interesting bgs in 4th Gen.
