Movies like Ringu(The Ring), The Grudge, Dark Water, Battle Royal, Dark Water, Confession, One Missed Call, Audition were very similar to korean movies today with strong acting performance, heartbreaking plot and twists. Shoplifters 2018 shows they can do Cannes-Oscar worthy movies again.
J-Horror/Thriller during the late 90's to early 2000's were as good as Kmovies today or even better

What about Korean shows?

What about Korean shows?
I like korean horror movies and shows too.

They were incredible! While K-ent has many great films, including horror - they aren’t exactly “scary” to me. Thai and Japanese horror still reign supreme on my most scary list

Japanese horror movies will always be superior
Korea doesn't stand a chance

Only japanese horror movies I truly enjoyed were Pulse, Cure and The Vampire Doll (this one from the 70s) and I watched a fair share of j-horror. SEA horror films are so much better, Macabre, Art of the Devil 2 and Shutter are some of the best horror movies I've watched. I like BR but wouldn't call it horror, it's more action-oriented.
