Why do pastors want us to go to church?

My pastor told me that I need to go to church, I told him that I go to church only to vote, and then he got quiet. He then hung up after a short while of being quiet.

So, why do pastors want us to go to church when some people like me go to church to vote?

Where I live, we vote on Election Day in the nearest place available for voting. That's part of the decennial census. We could also vote early or vote by mail.

obviously here (down under) we can do early voting and voting by mail as well or even absentee voting (ie. vote in an area where one doesn't normally reside)

The polling place is a church if the nearest polling place is a church. The polling place could be a library or some other type of building depending on where you live.

here it's always schools like for 99% of the places in Australia - obviously if it's remote then special accommodations are made but for the most part it's schools

wait so there you can't vote in a polling place that you don't live near??? I'll explain my situation down under - here we have electorates but if you can't be at a polling place in your local electorate you can still vote and cast what we call an absentee vote in any polling place

I'm talking about the United States. I have to vote in a church unless the American government gives me another voter registration card saying that I'd have to go vote in a school or something on Election Day.

And back to the question, why do pastors want us to go to church when some Americans like me go to a church just to vote? That's the unanswered question.
