Blonde is the most exploitive depiction of Marilyn Monroe’s life I have ever seen!

  • Spoiler Alert!

I really like Ana de Arma and I know she took on that role for a potential Academy Award nomination and win. She herself did a great job acting Monroe, I have no issues with her performance. But I really question the Director….. what was the point of this movie, it had no conclusion nothing? Almost 3h of trauma porn, that’s all I’m going to say. Not to mention that this wasn’t even a real Biopic and a lot was fiction.

I think this movie was a big disrespect to Marilyn Monroe. Most of the time she is portrayed as a dumb Blondie who had zero control of her life… even though the real Norma Jean Baker (real name of Marilyn Monroe) was a strong, smart and intelligent woman who fought to be taking more serious as an actress and intellectual, which she also achieved later in her career.

What bothered me the most was the constant sexual assault she faced in that movie including being r***d by a Hollywood Producer, even though this most likely never happened. Monroe was very open about the abuse of young actresses but also actors by powerful men who used the “casting couch” to coerce newcomer actresses into sexual favors to get a role. There are numerous reports that Monroe never accepted nor engaged in such inappropriate castings and walked out or declined any type of invitation of such kind. Which resulted in contract terminations or not getting specific roles. She faced many tragedies in her life and was abused by several people including domestic abuse, but this was the one thing she tried her best to not be victimized, but for some reason the Director decided to take this away from her in this movie.

Not even wanna talk about about what they did with her pregnancy debacle. They implied that he had terminated a lot of pregnancies, even though Monroe always wanted children but unfortunately was suffering from a lot of miscarriages, which took a big hit on her mental health as well… (the fetus scene was absolutely disgusting)… and the underlying slut-shaming that was going on, or at least that’s how it felt….

Like I really don’t know what they wanted to achieve with this movie. I just hope that Ana de Arma won’t get a lot of backlash for that. (Even though I already saw people doing that)

Tbh I don’t have any issues with explicit or brutal scenes and I’m also in for Directors staying true to reality without sugarcoating anything if it’s essential to the plot and or depicts real events. But there were so many violent and disturbing scenes that were completely unnecessary and just there to show her suffer even though it served no purpose to the plot in that very moment.

    Anyway….. I do not recommend.

  • I hope this doesn't come across as racist (i apologize if it does) but why is a non white woman playing Marilyn Monroe? it's like having a white woman playing Harriet Tubman or Rosa Parks in a biopic.

She's Cuban and Spanish. Most Cubans identify as white.

  • That's what happens when you let a man have control over the story of a women.

Just an exploitation of trauma and pain.

Well there have been male directors who did a great job with Biopics about women. This particular one seems to have been obsessed with one particular image of her and went with it instead of doing proper research etc. I mean this movie is based on a novel about Marilyn Monroe that had a lot of fictional elements to it. This whole thing already started without the best interest for her in my opinion.

To me, it was more that Ana de Armas has an obvious accent. I would have been just as put off if a British woman had played her with an accent too.
