I love good sampling but After Like isn't good sampling

  • Sampling something as iconic as I Will Survive should at least bring some creativity into the mix, but After Like's sampling feels like it was stitched on without much care for the rest of the song

The song is truly hard carried by Gloria Gaynor and it prevents me from fully enjoying it, I can't help but feel like I'm waiting for the verses and chorus to end so that I can hear the sample again. IVE can do better than this so I'm disappointed overall

  • I think it's good but could be better or go harder. There's a pussycat dolls song that also has the same sample right? I somehow always hear Nicole's voice lol

  • Sure better than the intro only or one liner then switch to pop.

TBH though afterlike has room for improvement, but it ain't that bad.

  • Koreans love it so it definitely worked for them

  • Maybe their next song will be better.

  • okay and? It's still a waste of a legendary sample

How is it a waste if it's topping kcharts like it was intended? The song doesn't appeal to you, I get that, but it's far from being a waste or a bad choice if it's successful.

  • After Like is definitely mid but I think their sample use was fine. That is the way most artists sample but just use a small piece of the track. What you are talking about makes it sound like you expected them to pull an Aespa and copy the whole song completely like with Next Level.

After Like was never meant to be some dedication to I Will Survive or to Gloria Gaynor. Had it not been pointed out, most people probably wouldn't have realized it was a sample to begin with. I've seen this so many times with other Kpop songs.

Anyway, point is, After Like is its own song, mid as it may be.

No Next Level would be an example of it going the other direction and would cause me to find it even more mid.

I don't hate the track, it's kind of just meh to me, but the contrast between how boring their original parts are and how good the sampled song is, is what I'm pointing out.

Sounds like you understand my opinion at least, but it being successful does nothing for that sampling.

  • Why does it need to do something for the sample? What are you even on about.

You just said it yourself, it's you. Cased closed

  • It broke IVE's streak of flawless TTs, I can write about it

They are 8 months old they'll have plenty of TTS they can make. This is just another way. Look forward to more music.
