Will SM’s next boy group be more popular than NCT?

  • let’s say SM debuts a “traditional” boy group with fixed members and not too many guys in the group.

their visuals, skills and songs are about the same quality as NCT.

will they do better or worse??

  • NCT debuted in the day when there was still a little bit of interest in new boy groups by the general public, that's well and gone now, bg are all about fanbases and anew boy group won't beat NCT for years and years to come in that respect either.

  • Sales wise, eventually. K-charting is kinda harder since no 4th gen bg has managed to chart top100, let alone top20.

  • Eventually. It’s all cyclical. Every new group faces the same problem - it’s inevitably compared to its more experienced peers, who have had more years to hone performance skills.

Since SM is so bg-heavy, this new group won’t just be compared to NCT, but also EXO and Shinee, who are still active and successful.

NCT Dream is still a long way from enlistment and the new Japan unit is mostly comparably aged to Dreamies, so those will remain strong and active contenders even when EXO wraps up final enlistments and 127 starts theirs.

Eventually, they’ll probably surpass but it’s certainly a much more competitive space now just within their own company, not even talking about other companies!

  • If they debut a new normal boy group I can see them reaching exo level if they pick the right members and songs

if the new group had public friendly music like exo, I think it'd be a verrry close competition

the premise is that the songs will be the same, the group itself would just have a more traditional concept.
