JYPE has no vision, they are just trend chasers. Do you agree?

as weird as she is, Min Heejin has a real artistic vision for [NJ] and has already planned their future releases. She insisted that Attention would be the single, even though hybe told her it was a boring song. And look where they are now

unfortunately for itzy, JYPE has no vision, they are just trend chasers. If every NJ era is just as well executed (besides the scandals) NJ has nowhere to go but up.

    Approved the thread.
  • Obviously :huuh: already gave nmixx the kwangya from shein

Also noticed twice’s new cb has like 5 different outfit styles while trend hopping on the y2k style but the song sounding the complete opposite of trendy

Then there’s ITZY doing the concept-fishing that they even had to change the cover art cause of how different the song was

If they’re going to copy SM at least make the music good that’s the biggest problem with jype

SM’s music is not good in 4th gen. If you said 3rd gen, sure.

  • yes he just tried to copy SNSD and failed.

Indeed but he's intelligent enough to knows what he lacks so he compensates it by copying from others and even succeeded in staying in Big3 for this long

    #cultpower :-)

  • its true lol. When cute concepts were trendy, jyp debuted twice with that, then suddenly gc took over and cute started dying a bit, so they debuted itzy with teen crush concept and made twice do whatever trended, if retro trended, it was retro and now jyp seems like chasing the y2k aesthetic for them. Nmixx are literally the shein version of aespa but with more talent and stage presence.

  • I’m just disappointed with what they did to nmixx. Their concept is now tied to their name so they got to ‘mix’ their songs now

    ouch!! that was harsh

It's pretty obvious at this point that they just look to put Twice to whatever they think is trending

For the upcoming music video, can you explain the concept or theme? How does it relate to "Talk that Talk"?

Dahyun: The music video is about TWICE members looking for codes and investigating the mission of confessing our love to our fans, ONCE. With the concept Y2K trending, you can find fragments of Y2K-themed images and styles within the music video. This concept relates to "Talk that Talk," since the melody is in an addictive retro pop/dance style that reminds you of the year 2000.

  • Vision in this sense is not a question of originality.

NJ's Y2K concept isn't original in itself. Many kpop groups have done it before them. Min Heejin didn't come up with anything new, she just mixed a very popular trend with aesthetics taken from her favourite weird movies. But the way that concept was executed is consistent. It might be nothing original, but it was applied everywhere without compromises. Making NJ something between a kpop group and an aesthetic experience. (This is one of the biggest reasons they gained fans already, aside from being a HYBE group.)

SM got into several plagiarism controversies with Aespa's teasers. Yet people don't call their concept unoriginal, but they do say JYPE is copying Aespa with Nmixx.

The reason JYPE lacks is that they make a lot more compromises. Sometimes, instead of trying to dedicate themselves to something and productively use existing concepts, they flip-flop between random trendy things within one "concept". (Of course this doesn't apply to them all the time.) The company notoriously loves to play safe. They want everything all at once, thinking it's a security net for a group. But in reality, trying to chase too many trends at once leads to not understanding those why those trends worked for others. This happened to Nmixx. Honestly, if JYPE didn't mediaplay Mixxtopia (and Mixxpop to a lesser extent) so much, and didn't force lore into their first song, the group would have gotten far fewer accusations of plagiarism. Otherwise, they've also had good ideas with Nmixx's debut that could have been expanded upon better but sadly that got overshadowed by chasing trends.

  • Itzy started a teen crush concept unless you honestly think BP songs sound like Dalla Dalla lmao

BP fans self-dragging to make it seem like they paved the way

Only kpop fans think there’s a meaningful distinction between girl crush and teen crush.

Itzy is JYPE’s version of a BlackPink-esque group. Unless you wanna claim they didn’t take inspiration from BP? Which is silly bc it’s obvious they did.

  • Yes and ontop of that TWICEs sound is really quite generic and boring they copy and paste every song

teen crush , girl crush , what's the difference? Kindly explain please?

Right, there's 'girl' and 'teen' spell differently. What else?

Itzy songs have a lot of random shouting, a lot of dance breaks with heavy emphasis on choreo and a lot about loving yourself.

What similarities do you think there are to BP's girl crush sound which is actually 2NE1's sound anyhow?

It's funny you missed out the 2NE1 being incredibly successful with girl crush --> YG release a prettier version of 2NE1

  • teen crush , girl crush , what's the difference? Kindly explain please?

Right, there's 'girl' and 'teen' spell differently. What else?

Teen crush is aimed at younger audiences (too). The songs tend to have unusual or fun sounds in the instrumental, chanting is common, and they're almost always upbeat. The themes of the lyrics usually deal with confidence, self-image, or first love, and are supposed to be relatable to young teenagers. The styling is usually brighter, more childish, sportier, based on trendy but everyday clothing, than usual girl crush styling. Choreo is usually intense and energetic.

Girl crush is more mature than teen crush. The music is more in line with trends outside kpop than teen crush is, the structure is often more straightforward, cheerleader style chanting isn't common, and it can sound darker than teen crush. Lyrics are focused on presenting the idols as cool and as girls whom women of wider age ranges can admire too, rather than being relatable to young teens. Styling can be more mature, less colourful, more "normal" than teen crush styling, or more focused on luxury brands. The choreo can be either intense, but also more mature.
