What sets Produce apart from other survival shows of the past and present?

  • I think it's safe to say that Produce has/had been the most successful and hyped idol survival show of the past decade.

What made it so different than other survival shows?

Why has Idol School or GP999 fail to replicate its success, despite both being under the Mnet brand?

Why does it work better than shows with known celebrities like Good Girl or Queendom even though 90% of the contestants are unknown trainees or nugu idols from failed groups?

  • Produce happened first.

  • Star talent and visuals. Other idol survival shows at least for the trainees werent up to par. The first season killed it, had all the hype, and followed up with the male second season and the rest is history

  • People are forgetting shows like WIN (Who Is Next) and Sixteen, that were also survival shows and that gave rise to Winner, iKON and TWICE.

The common denominator of all these shows is that WIN, Sixteen and Produce started when survival shows leading to group debut was still fairly fresh and not oversaturated as happened in the years after when too many survival shows popped up with varying degrees of production and promotion.

  • It was the first non company group affiliated, that with people nostalgia made them think it was the most succesful at all but pretty sure if we go by comparing adjusted metrics all of them were equal
