How to handle a guy friend that flirts with you but you aren't interested

it may be painfully awkward but you gotta make him aware that you're not interested asap, just so his feelings don't get hurt. for all you know, he could think you're interested and flirting back, things get misconstrued that way. i'm not sure if he's one of those guys who flirts as a joke or not but even if so- if it makes you uncomfortable let him know. sadly guys are fickle sometimes and you may lose a friend, but it's better to be comfortable than to put up with some BS you did not sign up for.
