would newjeans have the same level of hype if not all members were conventionally pretty?

an old saying has it "there aren't ugly idols" but there's also one that states "kpop has never been all about the music" so what do you think?

imo, i do think a big part of their hype is due to their insane visuals. heck, even i got interested in them and watched all of their content because of minji and haerin even though i didn't find their music as good as the hype prepared me to be (don't get me wrong, they're bops just not exceptional bops).

Obviously not. I think the only group that was hyped for not having outstanding visuals or coming from big4 was G idle because Latata was genuinely a great debut song.

i dont think so. like i KNOW there are other groups who had similar girl crush, fresh teen or new image as newjeans but nowhere as popular, might even be nugus. Theyre not in the big4 nor had oustanding visuals either.

its really just luck in the kpop industry. visuals, luck, talent.

but they're not the prettiest gg that debuted this year. their visuals are average to me. LSR and IVE are way prettier.

their concept and music is more hyped up than their visuals tho

but yes being conventionally attractive makes people want to check them out imo

Obviously not? Kpop is all about looks. Although, to me most of their hype is about their music, marketing and aesthetic.

i'm not saying they're the prettiest. it's a matter of taste for everyone but you can't deny they all fit the korean standard - small v-shaped faces, flawless skin, straight eyebrows, big expressive eyes... pretty much the epitome of asian beauty

Probably no. Gonna be honest, when I watched their first video I thought all of them were super pretty, probably the best visual group in all of 4th gen. But I didn't really care for them cause they looked young and their attention was kind of bland. But then they dropped HYBE boy and I changed my mind. I think HYBE boy as a song really helped make them more than just your typical visual group.

tbh i didnt really find them that pretty. i kinda thought danielle was ugly until hype boy and then i saw the light. minji and hanni are just not for me, but haerin and hyein and super pretty.

that being said, they could be super ugly and id still have their songs on my playlist and would be a casual listener. stanning them? probably not. i admit pretty privelege does play a role but i dont think all of them have to be pretty for that. a few pretty members can still carry a group.

tbh only haerin is the most outstanding beauty in the group. Others are very pretty but nothing too special, but we have to remember most of them are minors so they will eventually grow into theis looks in the future. Anyways I like them because their songs are really good.
