Everglow Becomes the 1st Girl Group to Perform in Saudi Arabia. Thoughts?

  • Interesting. Saudi is pretty scary place. I remember earlier this year there was some kind of missile strike just before F1 competition.

  • I think Saudi is weird. Women don't even own themselves there, the father owns the daughter until her death unless she marries, and then her husband or son owns her. A gg performing there means absolutely nothing to these freaks of nature

welll.......That is a big generalisation dont you think? There is a mix of people everywhere. depends on the family/person.

  • Depends,

Good for @@@edb913e4-726b-4982-bada-a7d6fa618c39@@@, hope they make good money

And maybe more GGs will have another venue/avenue to earn.

Socio-culturally: Elite-rich having young girls dance for them or boys.. nothing new, probably as old as humanity.

It is not going change anything much for women in KSA in short term.

But the doctrines of the religious - they probably are irate over such harami activity, but Muslim world is due for the showdown between political leadership and religious, which Christian Europe went through 5-6 centuries ago, resulting in secularism.

MBS is considered as pushing against religious meddling, so these kind of events are useful to build the overall narrative.

Otherwise, as long as the individuals, K-pop/Everglow aren't caught up in the tussle.. good for them

  • Saudi is changing very fast. Of course in the next 100 years it won't become Sweden (actually opposite is likely lol) but things are changing. This year they had one of the biggest cosplay fests, and you can even see girls without burqa in the video

Will Sweden might be going in the other direction..

In any case I am skeptical, dogmatic religions can easily gain back in short time, any liberal achievements of decades.

All it takes is political turmoil and/or economic downturn, then it will be all "god's punishment", return to the pure ways.

Wahhabi itself was one such take-back. Turkey after all the efforts of Ataturk, is now going the other way.

Still hopefully some of it will stick and resist.
