Let's discuss about Pdogg

  • Disclaimers: I'm talking about the musical aspect, not lyrical, because I know BTS rapline are excellent writers. So Armys with critical thinking are welcomed here. Armys with the thoughts of "BTS is always right and above criticism" can close this thread so you won't blame others for ruining your mood or whatever. If you read my thread and still say I ruin your comeback's experience, you only have yourself to blame. Antis and trolls aren't welcomed as well.

Pdogg's recent songs Yet to come and Life goes on sound very bland, uninspired and very lowkey on the musical part.

But he made some very good songs in the past like Black Swan, Spring Day, Butterfly which can be called timeless musical masterpieces by Armys

So I'm curious what happened to his creative process? If we look back BTS's discography, the man is really capable of making good music (sans the obsession with autotune but that's not the point here) but for some reasons, recent releases have been somewhat disappointing and mediocre that some Armys are even asking him to take a break. But there's already a 2-year break between Mots:7 and Proof so it's hard for me to believe the best he can come up with after 2 years is Yet to Come.

What's your opinions on this, Armys?

For me, I'm just hoping he is saving all the best songs for BTS's new chapter, because otherwise it makes no sense for a capable producer to be downgraded this much?

    Approved the thread.
  • we’ve heard this about a million times already.

  • idk he's not the mastermind of bts like teddy and yg girl groups, I think he had different songs and its hybe pushing this somewhat autotune (which they have been going for since DNA) and MAYBE they'll wake up after seeing the success of run bts over yet to come

if they don't the well their analysis team suck lol

  • He knows whatever he puts out will be a hit regardless of the quality and back then members as well as other in house pds were heavily involved in music too. But if u look at credits now its most if the time only pdogg. I think either he doesn't wanna put efforts or he's not even capable.

  • Life Goes on is not bland at all.

Yet to Come, on the other hand, is kinda bland.

For Youth was a better ballad.

autotune isn't the point here and there's autotune in Run BTS too.

Maybe you're onto something. I've also noticed that after some original Bighit producers were assigned to different teams and Adora left Hybe, the songs that Pdogg produced have become more bland with less interesting melodies which is understandable because Slow Rabbit usually write beautiful melodies and he's good at writing ballads while Pdogg was more on the upbeat side of BTS's music. But now, since Slow Rabbit is gone and when BTS want their song to be slow and calm, Pdogg has to do the jobs without the help of others so the difference is becoming more and more transparent.

  • If you don't like PDogg that's your problem. Yet to Come is a good song.

  • I love YTC

It’s more western but a grand song that everyone can sing along to.

This combined with some of the hardcore bts songs is just bomb and shows their versatility

    Shut up about pdogg

  • I like YTC but agree P-Dogg needs a timeout

  • OP is right. Pdogg is a good producer but I feel his current tracks aren’t my cup of tea. Albeit lgo was still a good song. It’s just ytc. It’s so plain and the english lyrics feel awkward and a mouthful. The rapline and vocal line saved the track for me. That autotune was also unnecessary for a song like that. The live version sounds a million times better.

I think if they even borrowed Suga’s production for Stay Alive, if they just wanted a slow tempo track, it would have been better received.

The guy needs to take a good long break and get back his inspiration. He’s still good and I’m sure he can redeem himself. We just don’t want him taking that blandness to the new BTS era.

  • Artists get offered tons of songs for their albums. I doubt this was the only song Pdogg had in stock. Truth of the matter is that whoever oversees which song gets chosen for the album as well as the album concept has no ear for what's good and whoever peer-reviewed and agreed to it isn't any better.

  • I never thought about him much, but after research, i saw he was the main on two of BTS' best songs, some of the best BGs songs ever in Mic Drop and Boy With Love. Life Goes On was also a good song, better than any title track since BWL and way better than the Western imports like Dyna, Butter, MU.

YTC isnt nearly as good as LGO but it's still 1000x better than Dyna and 100x better than MU and better than Butter. It's kinda like On actually, not offensive, not great, just fair. The real monstrosity is Run BTS but i'll save that critique for another thread.
