I. Introduction
7Illin' in the Dream is a YouTube reality variety series that follows the members of NCT Dream, a NCT sub-unit, as they play and eat in a country vacation rental during promotions ahead of their first album Hot Sauce.
II. Overview
NCT is unique among K-Pop groups due to the fact that the concept of NCT is an ever expanding group with "unlimited" members and is comprised of several individual subunits, including NCT Dream.
7Illin' in the Dream follows the members of the subunit NCT Dream over several days in a country house where the members relax, play games and enjoy meals together. This program serves as a contrast to the competition and activity-based NCT Life series. This series moves at a slower, more relaxed pace than a competition or travel series. The format of this series was used for a later series, Stick Together, tied into another sub-unit's album promotions in September. All 7 members of NCT Dream appear: Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung.
NCT Dream was designed as a teenage boy group, with members graduating from the group once they reached adulthood (20 in Korean, 19 international age.) Mark had previously graduated from the group in 2018 under its old system, which was eliminated in April 2020. Mark returned to the group during the NCT all-unit Resonance event in the fall of 2020. This series and album marked his full return to the group and is often a point of discussion during the show, where members also reminiscence on their career as they have been working since childhood.
The show aired twice a week leading up to Hot Sauce's release from April 17 to May 7, 2021. Episodes are named after lyrics from songs on the album and aired on the NCT Dream YouTube channel. The title of the show is a pun on the word (칠) in Korean, which is the word for 7 and is romanized as Chil.
