I. Introduction
Map of the Soul: 7 is the fourth studio album by BTS. It was released on February 21, 2020, with "ON" serving as the album's title track. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard 200, becoming BTS's fourth #1 on that chart.
MOTS7 was the best-selling album of 2020 in South Korea. Besides, it is currently the best-selling album in South Korea of all time. As of 2021, the album has sold more than four million copies.
II. Background and Release
Following the release of their sixth extended play Map of the Soul: Persona (2019), BTS took an "extended period of rest and relaxation" in the midst of their Love Yourself World Tour to "recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators" and to "enjoy the lives of young people in their 20s". Prior to the album's release, Map of the Soul: 7 was listed as one of the most anticipated albums of 2020 by Billboard, Rolling Stone, Vogue, Vulture and numerous others.

At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 82, based on twelve reviews, indicating "universal acclaim". Moreover, The album reached 3,420,000 copies of Pre-orders, beating their previous record by almost 700,000 orders, with their mini-album, Map of the Soul: Persona, with 2,680,000
