WayVision 2: Winter Sports Channel

I. Introduction

WayVision 2: Winter Sports Channel is the second season of a Korean reality/variety series that follows the members of the boy group, WayV, as they participate in activities and compete for prizes.

II. Overview

WayV is a permanent sub-unit of NCT. The group structure of NCT is unique among K-Pop groups due to the fact that the concept of NCT is an ever expanding group with "unlimited" members and it is comprised of several individual subunits. Currently there are 23 members in NCT, making up four individual subunits, including WayV.

NCT has its own long-running reality/variety show, NCT Life, with several WayV members appearing in it. This is the second season of the WayV-centric show, WayVision. In the previous season, members planned activities for the group, creating their own "channel" and competing for prizes.

In this season, "winter sports" channels are planned for them on a trip to Hwacheon, the "land of ice". They compete in winter sports events with Korean rapper and TV host Defconn as the MC.

WayVision aired on Seezn from February 22, 2021 to March 30, 2021 on every Monday and Tuesday. The series was recorded in July, following the COVID-19 protocols. The series ended just ahead of the release of WayV's next album, Kick Back.

III. Episode List

There are 12 episodes, plus a special behind the scenes episode. Episodes are 20 to 32 minutes.

IV. Trivia

Like the NCT Life series, many familiar and popular memes or references within the fandom appear in this series.

Display Spoiler

- The members reference their last series, the first season of WayVision.

- Members are multi-lingual, so although they are primarily speaking Korean, they also speak mix Mandarin and English throughout the show. The members' Korean continues to improve and becomes a discussion point.

- Members participated in the all-unit NCT 2020 Resonance event at the end of 2020, which is what they're referencing as being very busy. This included albums, appearances, performances and a TV show, NCT World.

- Members recorded this show between Resonance and their March 2021 comeback, Kick Back.

Episode 1:

- Kun immediately says he "sucks at sports." This is a long-running theme and joke through NCT Life, NCT World and the WayV shows.

- Members are introduced as Kun, the "rising dark horse"; Ten, the all-rounder player; Winwin, the goofy and innocent pixy; Lucas, a storong contender to win; Xiaojun, the passionate but clumsy; Hendery, born to be an entertainer; and Yangyang, the happy virus.

- Kun is called "big bro" because he is the oldest member, group leader and tends to take care of the others like a parent or big brother.

- Wayv's popular pets appear in the first episode: dog Bella and cats Louis and Leon. In 2021, the animals would get their own line of merchandise.

- Kun and Ten's affectionate bickering is a long-running theme in WayV content.

- Kun's dislike for the cold is a long-running joke in WayV and NCT content.

Episode 2:

- The icons on the scoreboard reflect the members's NCT emojis, which are used throughout all content and social media channels: Kun has a bear, Hendery has a donkey, which later changed to be a unicorn, Lucas has a lion, Winwin has a chick, Xiaojun has a dinosaur, Ten has a cat and Yangyang has a sheep.

Episode 3:

- The sled is called "Turn Back Sled" as a joke on WayV's song "Turn Back Time," which plays in the episode at that moment.

- Winwin jokingly calls his team "TVXQ," an older SM boy group whose full name translates as "Rising Gods in the East."

- Ten responds with the other boy group he and Lucas are in: SuperM. Xiaojun is not in the group, which is his response here.

Episode 4:

- Kun sings to earn his food - he is one of WayV's main vocalists. One of the others, Xiaojun, harmonizes with him. The second song he sings is "From Home" from the NCT 2020 Resonance albums. The song is a combination of Mandarin, Korean and Japanese. He is singing his part (in Mandarin) at first.

- Yangyang's rap is his portion of the song "Misfit," from the NCT 2020 Resonance albums.

- Yangyang grew up in Germany and is fluent in German.

Episode 5:

- The members have struggled with this game in NCT Life (Korean is the 2nd to 4th language of any of the members).

Episode 8:

- Members paying for meals is a long-running joke among the group.

- Members are singing the NCT U song "90s Love" from the 2020 NCT Resonance project. Winwin, Ten and Yangyang were all members of the unit.

- The members want Kun to cook because he is a very good cook, which is ongoing theme in NCT and WayV content. It's also why he's giving cooking tips to the members that don't.

Episode 12:

- Members make journals, as they did in the previous season.

- Ten is an artist, whose designs appear on WayV merchandise.

- Ongoing jokes/themes: Kun being terrible at sports; Lucas being very good at them; "Frozen" jokes and references; the right words in Korean, the group''s fluency in Korean and good-natured teasing about languages; members who were quiet the previous season because of their Korean.
