I agree, Scientist and some of TWICE's other recent songs just didn't have that impact and catchiness that songs like TT, Cheer Up and others from their peak era had.

On the other hand, some other songs of TWICE's let's say 'post-BEP era' are actually great songs in their own right, I personally find Cry For Me and The Feels on my main k-pop playlist, I like them that much.

My take is that their more recent albums and songs fit the taste of international k-pop fans and music fans better, where for Koreans it was TWICE's earlier songs they liked more and their recent songs less.

Added to this the fact that the competition has become more and stronger with a lot of new trending groups that have appeared and gobbled up the limited attention span and attention scope of the Korean general public.

Even Blackpink didn't chart as highly and strongly in South Korea in 2022 as it used to do with their former comebacks.

Twice's decline on the chart is very drastic while BP still did well although not as amazing as their last comeback. I wouldn't justify Twice's recent comebacks flopping using BP lol.

It's really hard to say what it's actually from. The hype could be due to perceived song quality, or it could be for other reasons. Plenty of groups have a lot of hype and popularity despite having generally bad songs, for example many boy groups that have never charted a song in their life but can sell hundreds of thousands of albums.

Personally NewJeans is just hype to me since I've only enjoyed one, the least successful one actually, of their 6(?) songs.

All of the male groups' concerts just seemed to be filled with 12-year old girls screaming their heads off, for the few that I went. The two girl group concerts seemed to be more balanced and were more enjoyable.

JYP groups tend to have a lot of "filler" members such as Twice and Got7. Even Itzy feels kind of like they have a couple filler members, despite being a smaller group. By filler I mean not much personality that sticks out, no vocal skill that jumps out etc.

Maybe they could do some charity and invite some lesser known kpop acts, like Twice or Purple Kiss or something.

BTS and Big Bang would be hard carrying the boy groups where for girl groups it would be a lot more spread out. Girl groups probably total more national hits.

There are plenty of songs that didn't hit #1 that have tremendous impact.
Also songs that hit #1 that had little to no impact. You can tell which songs those are by how long they sit at #1, how fast they fall off melon after hitting #1 etc.

I mean, while they wouldn't be the richest girl group, they certainly would be millionaires by now. It's been more than 7 years.

Looking at the limited amount of official charts it entered, and the positions, it really wasn't. Maybe compared to the very very low bar their Korean releases set, but otherwise no it really wasn't.
