Sure that's true but like I said there aren't many numbers to brag about to non fans. What's more impressive, selling a ton of albums or having a more popular baidu cafe? Albums of course.
SNSD might be popular but if there's nothing gained from their popularity like sales, charting or revenue then it's hard to demonstrate how popular they were.
In the second generation, SNSD and FX are the highest albums purchase，They can purchase nearly 30000 albums once, which was very powerful in those years. SNSD has endorsement in China and its value is also very high

I think most people know that SNSD was very popular in China, still are, but there's not much empirical evidence to brag about like sales or whatever.
They never promoted there (most was a few fan meets), never toured there, China wasn't buying albums much, Chinese charts weren't taken that seriously and so on.
Instead SNSD focused on Japan and obviously got massive success from there.
It was much much more profitable to promote in Japan than China. China wasn't part of the plan for SM, only Suju M was directed while everyone else kinda skipped it. It wasn't until Exo that SM took more of a focus on China but again the rest of SM artists never really bothered at the time.
In fact, there are data to prove that Baidu's data is true. SNSD has been the first in the women's league from 2008 to 18, and has been surpassed by blackpink in 19，
If it comes to popularity, SNSD is known by middle-aged and elderly people, and BP is only famous among young people
