Each group has their own sound and path to success. Generations have nothing to do with it, and most often than not, people aren't comparing them because of the generation they're from but because they are seeing similar amounts of success.

edit: while some groups from a generation can have songs with similar sounds, it's usually due to the trends that occurred during those years.

While being under SM is certainly a factor, people seem to be ignoring the biggest reason why people are interested in Aespa, and that's their unique concept and lore. It's not just the "typical girl crush". We can leave that to the other girlies.

Sure other groups have concepts and universes too. But this is the first group I can think of with a universe and story that's pretty straightforward. Most groups will opt for having a vague concept or storyline told through their mvs. But Aespa's is pretty easy to wrap your head around and more direct.

Plus, what makes Aespa stand out is the fact that they directly reference their universe and villain within their songs (with the exception of Forever). Other groups usually stop at the MVs. I wasn't all that interested in them either until I saw the SMCU thing. I hope that they run with this and give us a full-blown concept album for their first full-length. I think that would be so cool and different for kpop. SM better not drop the ball with this one.

Plus, I actually hope that the b-sides allude to the universe and story. I think there's a lot of ways they could go with it. Concept albums are a thing you know.

Black Mamba for now. But I'm far more intrigued by Next Level than I was for BM.

It makes me want to listen to it over and over just to hear all the different parts. Unpopular opinion but I think the song is actually put together pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised if it edges itself over BM eventually.

It may not be for everyone but I appreciate sm for always trying something different with their music.

You still see groups/members from these companies interacting with each other. Artists under SM still do units and collabs with each other, while YG and JYP don't so much anymore. Especially YG.

YG used to have a lot of company stans back when "YG family" was still a thing.

There's always next year. Shame they lost to Rain on Me though. If it had been Exile then at least they would have lost to a song worthy of winning.

It was what they did in those 4 years. Plus there wasn't any competition like there is now. Kpop as we know it wasn't really a thing until they came along.
