Out of all the active ggs in kpop, whose the most respected in Korea?

  • Moderator

    Approved the thread.
  • if the president mentioned them so it has to be them so blackpink

  • Kinda hard to tell.

But Red Velvet were the only girl group sent to represent South Korea in the historic North Korea concert and were invited to the Blue House, and I think the same applied to Blackpink, that they were invited to the Blue House?

So I'm guessing those two groups?

  • I don't think Korea actually respects any girl group

  • Kinda hard to tell.

it is hard to coined 'respected' cause we don't have the data.

what you listed are more in terms of popularity. If you're a running president or candidate or whatever and you want to appeal to certain group, bet your ass you invite the most popular or trenders currently. it's like bts to grammy, you get noticed and views, theyre not going to invite nugus

as for redvelvet, i have no idea what SM was planning, maybe they just wanted to be the first to do it or something. Cause if you tell me redvelvet is 'respected' in North Korea.. lol

  • It's pretty obviously BP

  • gallup said BP, so...

  • According to Sones SNSD is still active so it has to be them

Lol. It's South Korea that sent a mix of what they considered decent representation of South Korean artists to NK, not as if NK was cherrypicking the artists they wanted. Since YG were constantly experiencing one crime-related scandal after the other with their artists, it makes sense they picked another wellknown group, which happened to be Red Velvet.

International fans might ignore or shade Red Velvet all they like, but they're still one of the most known and liked groups in South Korea, certainly back then when that NK concert was held.

    gallup said BP, so...

According to Deep-Fried Corn Studded DooDoo (373), respected is not the same as popular, so gallup is worthless since that only measures popularity.

This is like some never ending wish fullfilment dream that never happens.

Sure, SNSD members are still active, but if they really wanted to do something as a group again, they'd have already done it a long time ago.

But hey, who knows, for their 15th anniversary.

  • That's kinda to say. With SNSD it was very easy because you could simply see through everyday metrics like charts, TV, in the news etc and they were by far and away the most mentioned gg.

But now the competition is more spread out, it's not a clear cut.

Twice were NGG and by a wide margin. But that was short lived and nowadays they're out down very easily by multiple groups on charts, on TV and in terms of awareness (none of members have individual presence and they don't really appear on TV much anymore).

Red velvet were asked to represent Korea for peace concert and can sometimes have a big hit on the charts but they're extremely inconsistent. One day they're the talk of the town the next they're nugu. Irene arguably was the biggest female idol of this gen but her scandal really fucked herself over.

BP. Currently the most respected. Doing extremely well in Korea, social media buzz and having success in the west. However they don't seem like they're was well talked about or praised in the same way Twice were at their peak. It feels like they're respected for their achievements rather than as an NGG.

  • not mamamoo. SK doesn't even respect them enough to listen to their songs anymore

MAMAMOO are very popular...Moonbyul had over 100k sales. It's just that they lost a lot of their international fanbase and they have no CBar anymore thanks to RBW.

I would say "respect for being talented despite being an idol group" --> MAMAMOO

Respect in achievements I would say Blackpink, however if you thought of a quintessentially kpop gg they would say Twice.

  • Twice at their peak were the most respected third gen girl group in Korea

Right now it’s hard to say. Maybe BP but their peak in Korea wasn’t as big as Twice’s or SNSD’s was
