Why are armys so sensitive to any criticism?

  • akp armys = cult of positivity

    :pepe-onions:

  • because a huge portion of the fandom has cult mentality and has been living in a delulu bubble where everything bts and hybe do is sacred and cannot be labelled as "wrong" under any circumstances. if you do criticize it, it automatically means you're anti, you don't trust the boys, you don't trust their management and etc...

also, this was said by multiple users now but i'm repeating it because it's TRUE:

lots and lots of armys are scared to say anything negative because

    1) if they admit hybe is in the wrong, they'll also admit bts don't have as much control as they thought and the boys are just like any other kpop group out there - a puppet waiting for commands from their label

    2) otherwise, if bts indeed has control over the situation, that means they really don't care about music anymore and are just releasing quick low-effort songs because they know it'll still sell and chart high - something many armys just don't want to admit

so the only thing they're left with is defending everything hybe does with their own lives

  • Not all yall in here thinking you're better than so called hybe stans. You literally hate anyone that is optimistic. In your eyes everyone must hate Hybe and there's no middle ground. BTS resigned to HYBE for many more years to come so just let it go at this point.

  • finally someone who got it

  • It's Army, they're used to playing the victim card.

    Also a good point.

  • I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw some Armys here demand that mods "do something" about negativity. Imagine getting warning points for criticising hybe :cryingr:

Wait, what? When did this happen?

I didn't see any threads where Army were asking mods to do something about the negativity.

  • That ARMY is "more sensitive to any criticism" is just perception, not anything proven by facts or statistics.

Still I share the perception as well and think the following are the reasons,

    1. ARMY is probably the largest fandom in current time - not just in Kpop, but even across fields - sports etc. So any aspect gets far more magnified in comparison with other fandoms.

    2. There can fan-ship due to art or due to cult (success stans). Generally organic fandoms are formed by people who follow the field, happen upon a group which they consistently like etc., but the other type, is purely a cult emotion, emotionally shallow people who want to 'belong' to whatever is the dominant trend and jump on to the bandwagon.

This can be seen with religions and politics as well.

And these sort of fan-ship, is the one that exponentially expands.

They are the people who are highly sensitive or rather intolerant, even compared to fans who have been with the group long before they were famous.

Again true for many groups, but the size of ARMY amplifies this far more.

In any case, why bother about ARMY outside of some academic study of mass/cult-psychology. What matters to ordinary folk is, enjoy BTS' music - then good. Don't enjoy BTS' - then move along, there are many more wonderful artists to listen to.

  • Wait, what? When did this happen?

I didn't see any threads where Army were asking mods to do something about the negativity.

There was a thread telling Armys to block fellow Armys who kept complaining and "spreading negativity" - which is whatever, everyone can block whoever they want-

But there were posts in that same thread complaining about mods not doing anything to stop people from spreading negativity. Notice that in this case negativity is literally criticising hybe's decisions. I don't know how silly one can be to suggest that this becomes a punishable offence.

If seeing people express their disappointment in a company makes you uncomfortable enough that you feel the need to shut them down, the maybe the problem is you and not them

    Whoa :wow:

But was this requested by Armys, HYBE stans or trolls?

  • lmaoooo

You know damn well if you tweet that you're going to get ratioed HARD. Next thing you'll be called mantis and eventually BTS antis

Just try that dear hybe stan

  • Armys are hella sensitive. Even a lame-ass joke can get them so fired up. Like lighten up princesses, it's kpop, not real life.

  • Or maybe people should treat BTS like normal artists and stop making analysis and projections on their every move and just take it at it is? And I say that to both fans and non fans.

There’s absolutely nothing that screams low effort about what BTS is doing or that they care about music, if you don’t like it’s fine (I myself disliked their new musical direction and constantly cling at bsides) but calling them low effort it’s just delusional.

Imagine if they kept their low effort song Dynamite to themselves because of how much people criticized them for being sell outs (even I thought it was going to be a bad idea), they would have missed one of their biggest moments in their career. I’m glad BTS don’t listen to anyone and just try whatever they feel like even if I dislike it sometimes.

  • I think a lot of reasons why new fans are like this is because of the narratives that they read/hear on the internet. I remember when I entered the fandom, I watched a lot of videos that armys created on YT. Majority of those videos always include HYBE and the 'underdog' stories of BTS. Then, I went to stan twitter and met a lot of armys. I was amazed and weirded out at the same time, cause they are so dedicated to the group and always so supportive & protective, and it extends to HYBE as well. Being new to Kpop and fan culture I was easily swayed and felt like I needed to follow what the fandom says. Tbh, army twt as a whole felt like a cult. You can't say anything bad or any criticisms about a song or HYBE. And when it happens, they always guilt trip other armys, saying you're just an 'anti' or not a fan. Honestly, fan culture on twitter is so toxic and bad, so I left. I hope other fans distance themselves to social media (esp on Twitter) cause it's so toxic. Also, a lot of Twt Armys literally live and breathe BTS that they embrace everything in regards to their brand. Even though, majority of business decisions that were made in their brand- it's HYBE pulling the strings. Like, a bunch of them really believes the 'HYBE family' agenda. It's sickening.

Kpop fan culture is just so different and they rely on parasocial relationship too much. HYBE and BTS especially. I'm still a casual fan tho.

I was once brainwashed that only Armys, Bts and hybe are right onese and other are villains and i have seen myself involved in a lot of toxicity because of it but once I realized that this fandom drags u and shits on you for voicing your opinion(my opinion never involved any fandom or their music) I stopped interacting with armys. BTS are the only group I stan but I rarely post about them on social media that's why I joined this forum to keep myself updated about bts.
