[Dark side of music industry]

  • This isn’t dark side of kpop, this is the dark side of the entire music industry. Artists who have so much love and passion for music have to depend on non musical projects to earn money, esp those that cannot tour as much.

At least kpop idols have physical album sales to boost them up, I feel bad for these western artists who don’t sell much physical albums.

Every important Charts in America prioritise streaming over buying music, something that never fills in the paycheque of artists. This is sad.

  • Streaming and downloads don't make enough money. Looking at what I've spent on kpop, I think kpop acts make the most money off of merch-especially clothing like t-shirts and hoodies (and CFs if they can get them)-not album sales. Concert tours lead to more merch sales. So if your faves sell a lot of albums but not a lot of merch, their company may prioritize the acts which sell more merch. ;-)

Edit: Stationery items are probably the most profitable because stationery is literally paper.

It’s the truth that artists make more money off tour/merch/brand deals/cfs. Album sales are ways they earn more money too esp more than streams/downloads
