I finally figured out why TWICE have been floundering on k-charts for years!!

  • It's so simple and obvious. I can't believe hardly anyone else figured it out or mentioned it: it's not strategy, it's not concept change or TWICE being too old or public being disloyal or fickle.

    It's BEP.

BEP (Black Eyed Pilseung) were responsible for TWICE's biggest hits: Cheer Up, TT, Likey, Fancy (TWICE's last true bop hit), those were all BEP's.

They were basically for JYPE what Teddy has been for 2NE1 and BP.

And not just for TWICE, they also did hitsongs for others, like 'Don't Touch Me' for the Refund Sisters, '%%' and 'Dumhdurum' for APink, 'Gotta Go' for Chungha, Sistar's 'Touch My Body' and so on.

Since that BEP don't produce songs for TWICE anymore and have started their own girl group, you can see TWICE songs don't have that extra 'oomph' factor anymore, the ones that replaced BEP don't have that level of quality hit production that BEP could.

Having the right songwriters and producers for your group really makes a world of difference :wow:

    Approved the thread.
  • But even before not all of their hits were from bep. Dance the night away, yes or yes, knock knock, what is love weren't bep production

  • I said this last week lol.

Only I didn't over simplify it as one reason.

It's not just BEP but the fact that another on of their hit makers, Jinyoung, has also seemingly lost touch with Korean public tastes.

Remember this IS NOT a Twice issue, it'd a JYPE issue.

We see a similar or worse pattern with Jinyoungs songs, Itzys, Stray Kids, Yoyomi, Day6 and now with Nmix.

True, but what I'm talking about is consistent quality hit production, being able to produce hit after hit after hit as a songwriter and producer. Something that only people like BEP, Teddy, G-Dragon and such are able to.

Of course not only the quality of the songwriter and producer makes the difference. But they play a major part, as seen in their successes working for multiple artists.

    I think it's the combination is company + group + songwriter/producer.

If those are all top tier, the company is big enough to deliver quality promotion and resources, the group is very popular and the songwriter and producers are high level, this will be the best guarantee to have a constant stream of high charting songs.

As soon as 1 of those 3 decrease, then things start to get a lot more uncertain, and much more hit-or-miss and haphazardly.

  • or the fact that korean public in general likes girlboss stuff even in high school concepts

  • fancy was kinda flop too tho

  • Hmm I don't know about that. But it's clear that they have to do something different for their next comeback to actually even chart at all. It's weird how low they've dropped

  • Their b sides got better tho

  • fancy is not a flop but its definitely far from their biggest hits in sk

  • Their songs have got better though.

It's that the creepy incels who could make a mancave out of each of their albums they bought so many have flounced after the dating news and found new and younger girl groups to be obsessed with. Twice tolerated those creeps for a reason - they were big spenders.

  • It's the song selection committee. I don't know if something changed. But the songs they're putting out suck.

Let's not forget that BEP did submit a song for Twice (around More & More time i think?) and the song was rejected.

What is this 'song selection committee'? Is that an internal JYPE thing? Each song has to be approved?
